Aaron Haroon Rashid created the character of Burka Avenger to represent the alter-ego, and heroine figure of Jiya, who is a school teacher at an all-girls school in rural Pakistan. His vision was to introduce society to the idea that women can fight against injustice, and can use their power and voice to fight for equality and their right to education. He incorporated "weapons" of all kinds using educational tools, such as pens, pencils, textbooks, etc., to symbolize the relationship between knowledge and power, and to highlight that physical violence is not necessary to be seen as a hero/heroine, or to take your place in society, but rather, that using instruments of education can exert just as much power.
